Christmas Village at the Baguio Country Club

Up in the mountain, far from the hustles and bustles of cosmopolitan living, I celebrated once again Christmas in the City of Pines.

My family usually goes up to Baguio City on Holidays to celebrate Christmas with me in 2-3 days. Last 2010, since it was the first time, was quite boring. We all just stayed at home as we wait the clock hits 12:00 o’clock am. Cook pasta, chicken and hotdogs for the Noche Buena. But last year was a different story.

I find my 2011 Christmas more exciting and fun! Aside from enjoying your family’s company, we also got the chance to enjoy other things.

In addition to the most common, Burnham Park, we got to visit the Christmas Village of the Baguio Country Club. It was said to be the first in BCC and in the City. Located across the Historical Club, the area was filled with lights, decorations and interesting surprises. But what’s more interesting about the Village is the process of coming up to the idea. Inside the Village were several small houses made out of abandoned plywood, snowmen created from used papers and magazines, Christmas trees with decors out of used plastic bottles, paper cups and magazines, lamp post from used can of oils, ground decors our of bottles of wines and abandoned plates. The Village showcased so many beautiful decorations out of trashes. What’s even more amazing was that all the decors were delightfully made by the BCC’s own employees. Wow! Despite of the busy days of giving service, they still handled producing those fantastic designs!

Our experience in the Village didn’t focus on the decorations only; they also had some entertainments like choir and other performances. There were lots of mascots going around the area for photo ops. There also was bonfire area where you can heat your marshmallow and hotdogs and warm your body. Guess what, the Village had SNOW!!! The kids really had fun especially when the machine started giving off snowflakes. It was a blast! It seemed like you’re in a different place outside the country.

I wonder how the Christmas Village would look like this year 2012…

Well, one thing’s for sure, we will definitely have ourselves entertained again by the lovely staff of the Baguio Country Club.
